Just south of Fain Road on Robert Road in Prescott Valley, a Prescott Valley Police Department Flock Safety ALPR camera stands quietly on a pole, facing south over the two-lane country road.
Right beside it is a City of Prescott Valley “Adopt a Street” sign proudly declaring that this stretch of road is maintained by the Mountain Valley Church of God.
The visual is almost too perfect.
A church that tends to its flock has, intentionally or not, taken under its wing a Flock camera — the kind that photographs, logs, and helps track the vehicles of the actual human flock driving by.
One could almost imagine a higher power looking down and deciding, “Yes, this particular electronic sheep needs protecting.” The solar panel even looks a bit like a tiny halo if you squint.
Whether the congregation knows they are the official sponsors of a license-plate reader is unknown. What is known is that the camera is there, the church’s name is right next to it, and the road is being watched with what appears to be divine adjacent approval.
In Prescott Valley, even the surveillance cameras have found religion.
